Hello Verona!

I am honoured to continue the legacy of Inie's column. I have discovered something wonderful in this community. Since the first day we moved here, we have been overwhelmed by the friendliness, acceptance and welcoming nature from everyone we have met in Verona.

So I hope this will be the start of a beautiful relationship.

To help make this column a success, I need your help. Please call or e-mail me with any events, news items or gossip. I would love to hear from you. Already I have had some wonderful advice and conversations with caring Verona residents,

Congratulations to Kim Ondaatje on receiving the Governor General's award in Visual Arts and Media. Verona is so proud of her and her accomplishments. Kim Ondaatje's Blueroof farm is breathtaking. If you visit the website bluerooffarm.donmacpherson.com you can truly appreciate the glorious landscape that she has created.

Golfers of Verona, rejoice! Rivendell Golf course is open for the season (that happy noise in the background is hubby digging out his golf clubs). And to help get your swing back in the groove, Kurtara Driving Range on Arena Boundary Rd is now open. During the month of May, Kurtara Driving Range is donating their Friday fees to the Cancer Fund.

Verona's "$1000 in Gold, Find a Doc" is in full swing. It has received great media coverage. If anyone has a prospective doctor in mind, all the details and entry forms can be found on this website at www.veronacommunity.on.ca/medical.shtml

Summer is not too far away and plans for the 14th Verona festival are in full gear. This festival is promising to be bigger and better than ever. To help make it so, the Verona festival needs you. Volunteer. Whatever time you can offer will be greatly appreciated. As a volunteer myself I can assure you, it is a lot of fun and you will meet some really terrific people. The next Festival meeting is on April 21st, 7 pm at the Lions' Club on Sand Rd. Hope to see you there.

This is my favourite time of the year for Flea Markets!! There will be a flea market on April 25th from 9 am to 3 pm at North Frontenac Arena , 4299 Area Boundary Rd. Proceeds will go to support the Frontenac Flyers Junior C Hockey team . Tables are available. Contact Jim Stinson 613-374 2177

Spring is a magical time for me. The earth is awakening from a long winter sleep. Our house is next to the marsh leading into Vanluven Lake. No longer is the night quiet. It is filled with loud chirps and squeaks and a menagerie of sounds. If any budding biologist knows what creatures are making the sounds, please contact me. I would love to know.

Enjoy the sunshine this week! Spring is finally here!
