Pumpkins, apples and pies, oh my. The beginning of the fall season is less than a week away and summer 2010 is becoming a sweet memory. However Verona is always a center of fun and activities no matter what the season.

The Frontenac Farmer's Market bustles every Saturday with residents rendezvousing with friends and neighbours, enjoying the Lions Club breakfast specials and chatting about all that's happening in Verona. Then they are off to shop the many vendors who are selling their locally grown vegetables and fruits. Pumpkins, corn, apples and tomatoes make a colourful appearance everywhere you look at the market. Children have lots to do and see including riding the Verona Express Kids' Train. Saturdays, 9 am to 1 pm.

Come enjoy "Corn Festival 2010" at Lakeview Gospel Assembly this Saturday September 18 starting at noon. Free admission to the festival. Lots to see and do. Enjoy all you can eat corn on the cob, the hot dog eating contest, bake sale, live music and a petting zoo. For further information contact Pastor Cory Bursey, 613-374-2976.

The Verona Cattail Festival Committee will hold its wrap up meeting with a pot luck dinner on Tuesday September 21st. Event managers are asked to bring their final reports to this get together. Committee members and spouses are invited. Bring your favourite dish and let's talk about the highlights of the festival. The meeting will be at Wayne's house at 6 pm. Congratulations to Amanda Edgar, who was the Student Volunteer Manager at the Verona Cattail Festival. Amanda gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Nathan Mitchell on September 3rd.

Old Hims and Sweetwater Bluegrass Trio will play on Friday September 24th at Hartington Community Church, 7 pm.

Trinity United Church Pie-makers are having a Pie Sale. Order your pies now as there is a limited supply. They are selling for $8.00 per pie and must be pre-paid. These homemade pies make great hostess gifts or presents and will be ready in time for Thanksgiving. To order call Marilyn Duffe at 374-2694

There will be a dinner and dance to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Bellrock Community Hall Association on Saturday September 25th. Enjoy a whole pig roast dinner and a dance featuring the Kingston Ceili band. Tickets can be purchased at Local Family Farms.

The Portland District and Area Heritage society will hold their Potluck Supper and General Meeting on Wednesday September 29th at Bellrock Community Hall starting at 6:30 pm. The Bedford Historical Society has been invited and Michael McMullen from Ottawa will present his McMullen family history.

In Sydenham, a fundraising dance with a football connection will be held on Friday, September 17th in the Sydenham High School gym. All proceeds go to the Southeastern Ontario Cancer Clinic. Still Standin' and Bauder Road will be playing. Doors open at 8pm, bands start at 9pm. Cost is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. The event is 19+ and is licensed through the LCBO. Tickets can be purchased by calling Steph at 613-650-7703
