A cold, blustery evening did not dampen the spirits of the Verona residents who came out to celebrate the Christmas Tree Lighting last Friday. Throngs of happy people gathered to sing Christmas songs with Ross Clow and Glen Neff and chat with friends and neighbours in the brisk night air. Ross and Glen kept us entertained despite their fingers that were freezing as they plucked on icy guitar strings. Kudos to the entertainers and all the volunteers who helped make this evening a great start to the Holiday Season.

The Holiday fun continues with a busy December lineup. A Community Choir presents "Spirit of Advent", a Christmas Choral of Concert. This is their gift to the community. It will be held at the Verona Trinity United Church, Friday December 3rd starting at 7:30 pm. Free admission.

Stuff the Cruiser! The Ontario Provincial Police are holding an innovative Food Drive to support the Southern Frontenac Community Services Food Bank. The OPP will park a cruiser at Reid's Foodland in Verona on Saturday, December 4 from 10 am to 2 pm. Bring your non-perishable food items and help stuff the cruiser full.

A "Christmas Homecoming" Country Gospel Concert featuring Ross Clow and the Old Hims, Glen Neff, Dwayne Rennie and Crooked Wood will be held in the Country Church, Hartington, Friday December 3rd starting at 7 pm. Free will offering and refreshments. For more information call 613-374-2178.

Harrowsmith's Santa Claus Parade is this Saturday December 4. The parade departs Centennial Park at 10 am. After the parade, free hot dogs and hot chocolate will be handed out at the Social & Athletic Club. The jolly old man, Santa Claus, will be hand. For more details contact Rob Papscott or Sheila Anthony at 613-376-6164.

The Verona Lions Club will be hosting a blood donor clinic on Thursday, December 9 from 2:30 to 6:30 pm at the Verona Lions Hall, Verona Sand Rd. To avoid a wait you can book an appointment for December 9 by calling Canadian Blood Services toll-free at 1-888-236-6283.

The Communications and Electronics Garrison Military Band and the Sydenham St. United Church Choir present "A Charity Christmas Concert". More than 70 Musicians and Singers will be on stage, including Verona's and area finest singers. This concert will benefit the Christmas Food Basket Program and the Helen Tufts Nursery School. No tickets required. Cash donations will be accepted at the door. The concert will be held at the Sydenham Street United Church on Sunday December 5, 7:30 pm.

The Frontenac Farmers Market will operate for three more weekends at the Lions Club and then they will take a few months off. Now is the time to stock up on varied local producer-based goods. During the month of December, each time you buy from a vendor, you are eligible to enter a draw to win a basket of market goodies to be drawn on Saturday, December 18th.

The Verona Lion's Club is moving the old Bus Shelter from McMullen Park to Prince Charles Public School. This new location will provide shelter for the crossing guard. A welcome haven from the coming wintry weather.
