January is almost over. It may seem like not much is happening but this is the quiet before the storm. Verona Volunteers take this month to sit back and take a well deserved breather. However don't be fooled by the inactivity. They are gearing up for an exciting year 2011. Keep an eye on this column for more details coming soon.

This is the Year of the Rabbit and if you like putting pretty stamps on your cards and letters then head down to our local post office. Julie will show you the New Year of the Rabbit stamps from Canada Post. Those bunnies are adorable. And don't forget it costs a little more to mail your letters and bills. As of January 17th, the first class letter rate to destinations in Canada is now 59 cents.

Kids Club starts Tuesday, January 25th and runs for 10 weeks at the Free Methodist Church, Verona. A light supper is served at 6 pm and an exciting evening of activities is held from 6:30 to 7:45 pm. The children will be kept busy with music, stories, crafts and games. The Kids Club is a free event, (free will donations appreciated.) Open to children from toddlers to grade 6 (parents must accompany toddlers). For more info call Darlene at 613-374-1232.

Have you heard about scrapbooking? It is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of a scrapbook. It also includes creating beautiful greeting cards. Well, we have a Scrapbooking and Card Making Club right here in Verona. The Club meets two Mondays a month from 1 to 3 pm at Trinity United Church. Their next meeting is Monday January 24th. There is a small cost for the card materials from the instructor and a toonie to the church hall. They create two cards per session. Newcomers always welcome. Bingo is back! The Verona Lions Bingo cohosted by Knights of Columbus, St Patrick Council will be played Monday January 31 at 7 pm. The doors and canteen open at 6 pm. Early bird starts at 6:50. Then 12 regular games and 2 share the wealth will be played. Verona Lions Club, 4504 Verona Sand Rd. Free parking.v

The Crafts & Conversation's Club is a group of quilters, knitters, crocheters, crafters and chatterers. They meet at the Free Methodist Church in Verona, Wednesday January 26th from 10:00 am until noon. They encourage each other with projects, learn from each other, and in general have a constructive two hours. Coffee is provided, please bring your mug. Newcomers always welcome. Don't miss the Winter Weekend Wake-Up Breakfast this Saturday January 22. Enjoy a good old fashioned home made breakfast and chat with friends and neighbours. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and fried potatoes for only $5.00. And your choice of tea, milk, juice, bagel, muffin or bottomless cup of coffee for $1.00 more. Conversation is free. Breakfast will be served from 9 am to 11 am. Trinity United Church, Verona.
