With the kids back in school and the summer hiatus over, it is time to sharpen those pencils and mark the calendars with all the clubs and events starting up in September.

Scouts Canada, 1st Verona, registration for all divisions (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers) is Thursday September 10th from 7 to 8 pm at Trinity United Church Hall, Bank St. at Road 38 in Verona. During the year Beavers (ages 5-7 yrs) hold their meetings Mondays from 6:45-7:45 p.m., Cubs (ages 8-10 yrs) meet on Mondays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Both sections meet at Trinity United Church, Bank Street. Scouts (ages 11-14 yrs) hold their meetings at Prince Charles Public School on Tuesdays from 7-9 pm. Contact Terry Freeland at 613-374-2703. Group Commissioner Harold Dalmas tells us that the Venturers section is once again gaining local popularity with young men and women ages 14 to 17. They will be part of local groups but will also join together with members from neighbouring communities to plan and participate in their own challenging events. Guides Verona registration for all divisions is Thursday, September 10th, from 6 to 8 p.m at St. Pauls United Church in Harrowsmith. Ages 5 to 15. For information call Marni Pedersen at 613-374-9929.

For the young at heart, the Rock Lake Seniors Club begins its new season Wednesday September 9 with a pot luck lunch at the Verona Lions Club, Sands Rd, at 11:30 am. The club is open to everyone 50 years and up. The Rock Lake club meets for lunch, games, speakers, bus trips and crafts. The club is a member of United Senior Citizens of Ontario. Birthday wishes to Brent Orser who turns 1 on September 7 and to his great grandma Fleta Orser who celebrates her big day on September 8.

Bell Rock Community Hall Association will hold its meeting on Tuesday September 8th at 7 pm. Items to discuss include creating a committee to handle organizing the fall harvest pot luck. All are welcome. Contact Kevin Wenkoff 613-545-5165.

Crafts & Conversation's will meet September 9 at the Free Methodist Church in Verona from 10:00 am until noon. Coffee is provided, please bring your mug. There is a fee of $5.00 for the fall season. Contact Helga Konecny 613-374-1281

Don't miss the last, great summer festival for this year. The Garlic Festival, come rain or shine, will be this Saturday September 5 from 9 am to 2 pm. Lots of great food, crafts, gifts and special events and of course 17 varieties of garlic! Free admission and parking. Verona Lions Hall, Sands Rd.

The Piccadilly Jam Session featuring Country, Bluegrass, and Folk music is this Sunday, September 6 at Bedford Hall from 1 to 5 pm. Performers free, audience $1.00. For more info call 613-374-1236
