A fun-filled Victoria Day weekend in Verona coming up! There will be lots to do and plenty of excitement to keep us happy and entertained.
Start your Saturday at the Farmers Market at the Lions Club on Verona Sand Rd. A triple bill this weekend. Not only will your favourite vendors be there but they will also be having their annual yard sale, and Trinity United Church will be holding their popular plant sale. There will be perennials as well as seedlings, rooted cuttings and houseplants. Shop early because the plants sell quickly.
Make sure you drop by and taste the wares of the two new Farmer Markets vendors. Sauces "N" Stuff has a delightful selection of rubs and sauces for the barbecue season. Scott and Robin Celeste have been creating their BBQ sauces for years now and they tell us that their family and friends just go crazy over them and they can't keep them in the house. With that critical approval, it was time to share the sauces with others.
A Taste of Russia is serving up a smorgasbord of delicious desserts and main course meals-everything from strudels to perogies and cabbage rolls. The food has been freshly cooked within 24 hours and is table ready. We tasted their blueberry and apple strudel last week and it was delicious. A Taste of Russia has created strong relations with local farmers, who supply all the major ingredients used in their products.
Once the market is over, the excitement continues on Main St. Verona is having its first Charity Street Party with live musical entertainment, an all day barbecue and a charity car wash. Walker St will be closed off from noon to 9 pm to accommodate the stage and the throngs of happy people. Bands scheduled to play will include "Rock Bottom" and "Rubber Neck". All proceeds will be donated to the Hotel Dieu Hospital for the Child Development Centre. What a great way to spend the rest of your Saturday!
Two very talented Verona artists, Louise Day and Kim Ondaatje joined forces with Susan Tunicliff of Gananoque and presented an exhibition of their photography on May 15th and 16th at Blue Roof Farm. These three women have captured magical images in their photos, with an eye for light and composition. Louise explained that she only creates images of scenes that she enjoys. She says it is extremely gratifying when others see the magic of what she saw through her photography. Congratulations to these three talented artists.
