IT'S HERE!! The Verona Cattail Festival!
Are you ready for a wild, fun and entertaining three days! The Festival Committee is ready and it all starts Friday night with the Verona Cattail Festival Parade.
2 important changes to take note of. The parade starts at a new location and is reversing direction. It will still travel along Main St. (Road 38) but will start at Lakeview Gospel Assembly Church. The parade route will go south on Road 38, turn right onto Bank St. then left on McMahon Drive and then right onto Verona Sand Road to the Lions Centre. (see Verona Cattail Festival insert in today's paper). The theme of the parade is Cameron's Bog Buddies. Everyone who dons a costume or decorates a float is invited to join the parade. There will be lots of prizes for best float, best business float, best family float, etc. A parent or guardian must accompany children who participate in the parade. Watch for me decked out in my butterfly costume complete with my doggie disguised as a grasshopper. Line up for the parade will be on Verona Road (the bypass road that runs parallel to Road 38) right behind Lakeview Gospel Assembly at 6:30 pm. Parade starts at 7 pm. sharp.
Help make this parade a hit of the Festival.
Don't forget the parade route will be closed off to all vehicular traffic (from the north end of Verona to Verona Sand Road) from 7 PM to 7:30 PM. Arrive early to get a good viewing spot for the parade. There will be bleachers set up along Verona Sand Road at the Lions Centre for viewers to watch the parade enter the new festival location, the Lions Centre.
The next positive change is admission bands will be sold instead of admission buttons. No more wondering where you put your button the next day or losing buttons on the festival grounds. The admission bands will be placed on your wrists and are sturdy enough to last the whole three days. You can shower with them, sleep with them on and never have to worry about lost bands. The Hospitality tent will be open at 4:30 pm Friday afternoon. Avoid the line-ups on Friday evening and purchase your band in the afternoon before the festival starts. Don't forget to fill out your ballot. You will be eligible for the early bird draws on Friday night and also for the draws at Festival close. (For button collectors, souvenir Cattail Festival buttons will be sold in the hospitality tent.)
It will be a wonderful three days at the Festival. The Festival is now set up to weather the elements. In case of inclement weather that would have closed down the old location, the festival will now move the entertainment inside the Lion's Hall.
Louise Day is looking for RNs (Registered Nurses) to be on the Festival site on Saturday and Sunday, August 7th & 8th. Please contact Louise Day, 613-374-3333.
See you at the Verona Cattail Festival!
