I have a newfound respect for bingo players. My first experience at the Turkey Bingo put on by the Lion's club in October was an eye opener. You gotta be on your game to play this - no staring at walls or starting up idle conversations. How do the players do it? Was I the only one who seemed lost? Apparently so. Everyone else was into the rhythm of the play and having a great time. I only had 6 cards to keep track of. The lady in front of me had 18 cards and scotch tape to keep the cards from flying as she ably stamped all the numbers that were called. The caller asked, "Am I calling the at the correct pace." I wanted to cry out, "No, slow down, give me a break, I need to rest." However once again I was the only one. The rest of the crowd just laughed him off, daring him to go faster. But am I defeated? No! I will be back Monday, November 29th for the Lions Club Turkey Bingo and I will learn how to play this game they call Bingo. Turkeys are being given out for the winners of each of the 12 games. And yes, I am bringing my scotch tape, my favourite marker and my lucky charm. Hope to see you there, just don't talk to me, I am not ready yet for conversation. Turkey Bingo. Early bird game starts 6:50 pm. Verona Lions Club. Verona Sand Road, Monday, November 29th.
Bundle up the kids and start your day off at the Free Skate on Friday November 26th. North Frontenac Community Arena, 12:30 to 2:00 pm. Then spend the evening with the family at the Christmas Tree Lighting in McMullen Park starting at 7 pm. Listen and sing along with local musicians Ross Clow and Glenn Neff as the kids eat hot dogs, marshmallows and hot chocolate. All this fun for free! Non-perishable food items for the Verona Food Bank appreciated and can be dropped off at both events.
Christmas can be a wonderful holiday and brings together family and friends. But it can also be a stressful time. Sometimes husbands have to work that day or children can't make it home this year to share the holidays with their parents. Perhaps the family budget has been pressed too far to afford a Christmas feast. Verona residents are famous for bringing the community together and this Christmas will be no exception. Join us Christmas day for a fun packed, music filled day with a delicious Christmas feast served up. Share our Verona Christmas Spirit! This is a free event and is open to Verona and area residents. Tickets are free, but you must reserve your spot by picking up your ticket before December 15th at the Verona Hardware Store or Topper's Convenience Store. For more details call Joyce or Doug Casement at 613-374-3406.
