On April 5, I am going to become an energy conscious individual. No longer will you catch me doing laundry at all hours of the day. When that heat wave eventually hits, I will enjoy the heat and stop myself from cranking up the air conditioner. Those little indiscretions are going to cost me if I don't change my ways. Hydro One is increasing their rates on April 5 for peak hours of use. (For off peak hours the rates have been lowered.) The upside is that if I am diligent I may actually save money. So my goal is to minimize use during peak hours which will be on weekdays from 7 am to 9 pm. I will delay refrigerating the house during heat waves, doing my laundry and other hydro guzzling chores for nighttime, 9 pm to 7 am, or until the weekend when the rates are lower. How successful will I be? I will let you know when the next Hydro One bill arrives. For more info on new rates and if they will affect you, visit www.hydroone.com and click on rates and prices.

It's Maple Madness at the Market! Enjoy a sticky, fun filled morning at the Frontenac Farmers Market this Saturday, April 2. Taste the delicious, maple syrup treats at the various vendors tables. Stock up on containers of fresh, maple syrup. An information display will be set up to show how to tap the trees and how maple syrup is made. A fun, tasty and educational way to spend a Saturday morning with the family. Verona Lions Hall. 9 am to noon.
