I never realized how much I like the name Verona until an article in the Frontenac news suggested we change the name. I was all worked up and preparing a fiery retort when I noticed the date at the top of the page "April Fool's a day early." You got me good, Jeff! So don't panic, Verona residents, our name Verona is safe and secure and is, I now realize, very much loved.

To help make Verona even better, make sure to attend the next Community Improvement Plan meeting tonight, Thursday April 7. This second meeting will be a workshop to review the comments and ideas from the first community meeting, to discuss potential projects and programs and to review the draft work prepared to date. 6:30 to 8 PM. Verona Lions Hall.

To help keep Verona beautiful, here is some help. South Frontenac Natural Environment Committee announces its annual Pitch-In campaign. Pitch-In is Canada's national program to clean up the debris on our roadsides and shorelines. The program runs from April 18th to April 24th . Free Pitch-In bags will be available starting this weekend, April 9. You can pick up the free Pitch-In bags Saturdays at the Verona Lion's Hall during Frontenac Farmers Market hours, 9am-noon. Other locations to pick up the bags are Verona's Toppers Convenience and the Verona Convenience Store. Put the filled Pitch-In bags out on your regular garbage days. No bag-tag required. If you've got a special situation, e.g. tires/metal/furniture, make a really big mound and phone it into Public Works 613-376-3900 for pickup. If everyone takes part in this campaign, Verona streets and beachfront will be looking spectacular for the great weather ahead.

Have you got something useable that you don't need, or can't be bothered trying to sell? Then participate in Give-Away Days from Mon. Apr 18 to Sun. May 1. Place those items roadside for your neighbours and passer-bys to take a look at and perhaps take away!

Stuff the Cruiser this Saturday, April 9. Help fill the shelves of the local food banks by filling the trunks of police cruisers with non-perishable food items. The cruisers will be located at Verona Foodlands from 10 am to 2 pm.

Dance to the music of the "Kingston Ceili Band" at the Bell Rock Hall, sponsored by the Bell Rock Community Association, on Sat. April 16, 7 pm to 10:30 pm. Tickets $12 for adults, 17 and under free, available at Local Family Farms, and the Verona Hardware. For more information call Kevin at 613-545-5165.

Christian Fiction Book Club will meet April 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Verona Free Methodist Church. For more information, call Beth Freeland at 613-374-2703 evenings.

Rock Seniors Club meeting will be held Wednesday, April 13 at noon at the Verona Lions Club. Lunch is followed by either entertainment or a speaker on a topic of interest to Seniors. Contact Ruth Peters at 613-536-0312.

Play euchre on Thursday April 14. Lunch is at noon, euchre at 1 pm. Cash prizes and lunch all included for $2.00 Bellrock Community Centre. For more information call 613-358-2368 or 613-374-2850.
