It was hard not to get caught up in the excitement this past week. It started with the Verona Cattail Festival volunteers' meeting, which had a record number attending including a bevy of new volunteers. Everyone was caught up in the anticipation as we discussed the preparations and new events being planned for the festival. A glimpse into this year's entertainment lineup further fueled the enthusiasm. What an amazing festival is in store for us. If you would like to volunteer, there are two more meetings in June and July for you to attend.
The excitement continued into the weekend as a beautiful Saturday brought residents and tourists out in full force into the streets of Verona. The Frontenac Farmer's Market was packed with shoppers as they bought everything from locally crafted goods to plants for the garden. Main St was alive with shoppers who browsed the many yard sales and stores. Gardeners were further enticed to start planting their gardens with flowers that our local stores have brought in. Jitterbugs was full of well-wishers and shoppers for their grand reopening.
A great start to our Verona summer and it is just beginning. Free summer concerts! The Verona Community Association announces its third year of Music in the Park Concerts. The first of three "Music in the Park" concerts will be held on Sunday June 12th. Come and enjoy the Big Band and Swing Music of LaSalle Causeway. What a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon in the cool shade by picturesque Rock Lake. Refreshments available. Bring a lawn chair. Free admission. Free parking. McMullen Beach and Park. 2 to 4 pm.
Bingo! The Verona Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus are cohosting Bingo on Monday, May 30 at 7 pm. The doors and canteen open at 6 pm. Early bird game starts at 6:50 pm. Then 12 regular games and 2 share the wealth will be played. Verona Lions Hall.
Bat Talk! Meet the Batman, Matt Saunders. Matt is going to reveal fascinating facts about bats. Bring the kids. There will be live bats and a bat house construction demo. Bat house kits will be for sale. This afternoon talk is sponsored by the South Frontenac Natural Environment Committee. Saturday, May 28 at 1pm, Trinity United Church Hall, Free coffee, lemonade and cookies.
The Diners Club Program for adults ages 55 plus, will be held Thursday, June 2. This month's entertainment will be the ever-delightful Dick Miller. Prepare to be entertained. Noon at Trinity United Church in Verona. Reservations are required. Call Rural Visions 613-376-6477.
Verona musician, Lee Casement's CD release event is set for Friday, May 27. The project is called In The Guestroom. Next Church, 89 Colborne Street, Kingston. 8 pm, cover $2.
Dance to the music of Still Standing at the Third Annual Renovations Dance and Silent Auction in support of the Frontenac Community Arena. Saturday, June 4 from 9 pm to 1 am. Frontenac Community Arena. Tickets $15 in advance, $ 20 at the door. Available at Verona Hardware.
